OK.....this will officially be my first blog. I decided that my first topic will be about black people tanning. Recently I have heard rumors about black celebrities tanning to get an even skin tone and a nice bronzed glow, there's nothing wrong with that, right? I mean I have thought about tanning way before I heard of black celebrities doing it, and I have talked to a few black young women who said they thought about tanning also but never could get the nerve to walk in a tanning salon because they were afraid of being laughed at or judged, because its not "normal" for black people to tan. A few months ago I asked my dermatologist about tanning, she told me that black people seem to have a lower level of vitamin D because our pigment is darker and the skin is thicker and also it can mean that we are not getting enough sun. A low level of vitamin D can lead to diabetes, hypertension, multiple sclerosis, osteoporosis, memory loss and several types of cancer and other diseases which are very common in our culture. We can all be honest and admit that we do try to avoid the sun and heat as much as possible. If you are black and enjoy the outdoors that's great but for those who don't Indoor UV rays help our skin to absorb the vitamin D and also giving us a nice temporarily glow. We can look good and be healthy to at the same time if we educate our selves about our selves. Tanning is just not for light complexions, come on people it's time to leave the box and explore other things. Today I'm stepping out of the box, around seven o'clock today I will be lying in a tanning bed, I'll keep you posted. When you look good, you feel good, when you feel good you get shit accomplish.
